Where is the school located?
The Pelican School is nestled in Cassandra’s home in eastern Sioux Falls, SD. We have a dedicated space known as “The Nest,” thoughtfully renovated to create a nurturing and effective learning environment for our students.
How big is the class size?
Our classes are intimate, with around 10 students per class. This allows for a mixed-age group setting where students can learn from one another, enhancing the educational experience. This small size is a key benefit of our microschool approach.
Will you be expanding to more grades in the future?
Absolutely! We plan to expand our grade offerings each year. Students enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year will receive priority for enrollment in subsequent years, ensuring continuity in their education at The Pelican School.
Is there an application deadline?
No, there isn’t a set deadline for applications as we have rolling admissions. Due to our limited class size, once all spots are filled, new applicants will be placed on a waitlist until an opening becomes available.
Do you follow a traditional school calendar?
Yes, we follow a traditional academic calendar running from late August through mid-May. This schedule helps structure the school year while accommodating the unique scheduling needs of our microschool model.
What age of students do you accept?
We welcome students in kindergarten through second grade. Typically, a child should be 5 years old by September 1st of their kindergarten year. However, we recognize that some children may be developmentally ready earlier. Parents are encouraged to assess whether their child is prepared socially, emotionally, and intellectually to start their formal education.
